These Moroccan ribs are pretty epic. Like I mean EPIC. Slow cooked to perfection and delicious AF! They are easy and full of flavor. Perfect for dinner with friends, family or a part of your meal-prep lineup.
Slow cooker dishes are always so relaxing for me. You simply put everything in the cooker and head to work or relax with the family while dinner cooks. When I’m utilizing the slow cooker, I like to also utilize different sauces and spices I don’t use on a daily basis. Spices like cumin, coriander, and allspice. And I have been trying to figure out how to utilize my jars of shakshuka sauces. I think when we think of shakshuka sauce, we immediately think eggs! But one thing that’s always important to do in your kitchen is to utilize every ingredient in different ways.
So I thought, what about ribs? Let’s just add them to the slow cooker with lots of warm Moroccan spices, and see what we get. And what we got are these tender and juicy ribs that are delicious and packed with flavor.
I really wanted to emphasize the Moroccan flavors so I rubbed the ribs with a spice rub before I added the shakshuka sauce. This recipe uses two pounds of ribs so please do not be afraid to season it up. We start by seasoning them with salt and pepper. Then rub them with a delicious barbecue rub, before adding the shakshuka sauce and a few other ingredients. This is going to give the ribs a rich depth of flavor.
I know it may seem like you don’t really have to add lots of flavor or depth to meals that are slow-cooked. There’s a lot of misconceptions that the “slow-cooker will do the work for you”. Yes, it definitely will. It will cook whatever you put in there. But like any other cooking method, you have to make sure you are giving your dish some TLC. Don’t be afraid to use up those sometimes “scary” spices and sauces.
The slow-cooker is a wonderful tool that will allow you to take some risks. Because everything is slow-cooked, you can trust that all those flavors will come together to make something wildly unexpected and delicious.
